Here Comes the Cake

I've kind of dropped off the face of the earth. (Too much pressure to be clever mostly makes me silent) However, I am overcoming any blogging qualms and I just wanted to document one of my recent(ish) successes.

Last year I took a few cake decorating classes and had a great time, but with this, that and all the other things, I have been unable to make very many cakes. As such, when asked to make a wedding cake for my cousin, I was a little...unsure.

However, with Sterling's help (along with Janelle, Mom Hurd, Rachel, etc) 9 batches of rice krispie treats, 5(ish) pounds of fondant, who-knows-how-much frosting, a single cake, and a few late nights...wha-lah-pretty wedding cake!

PS If anyone asks, I guess I'm open for "business"

Thanks, Clark, for taking the pictures for me.

Love in the Cleanroom

This is my favorite music video. What's better than finding love in a cleanroom?

I get to work in a cleanroom...kind of like this one. I think work might be more interesting if The Postal Service was playing the soundtrack.

I love the mechanical movements along with the music. AWESOME!

Heroes

I'm kind of addicted to the TV show Heroes.  But there has always been something that kind of bugged me about it.  Today I figured it out.

Don't you think
He

Looks like
Him?

Hits a little close to home for me

No more pheasant couch?

When Sterling and I were trying to get furniture for our apartment we became well acquainted with Freecycle. Freecycle is an online group who's main purpose is to keep stuff out of landfills. When you have something you want to get rid of, you post it online and then someone who wants it will come to your house and take it away. Through this process we were able to get this beauty.
It's surprisingly comfortable, and the structure is good----but obviously there are struggles. The other day I stumbled across this couch (via Oh Happy Day)
It has a striking resemblance (in structure) to my beloved pheasant couch. So I've come to the decision to reupholster the chair. Does anyone have any experience or advice? I'm totally excited to have a cute new couch! Hopefully it will work out as well as this chair did.

Google Quandary

I heart google. I've even considered writing google in on my ballot for the presidential election. But one thing has always puzzled me. Does anyone ever click the "I'm feeling lucky" link on the google search page? It feels like I'm leaving too much to chance, not enough structure.

This Little Light of Mine....

via Add a human touch...

Isn't this fantastic?  It's the size of a credit card, but when you unfold it, it lights up.  I'm guessing it used LEDs, but doesn't it look cozy but quirky?  What a great way to use those little slots in your wallet.
